“19-year-old Lil Silva is fast becoming one of the most talked about artists on the UK Funky scene. Not only does he possess the musical understanding to work with genres such as American House, Funky and Grime but his ability also allows him to merge and blend styles. Silva’s flair manifests itself in his creative production techniques, showcasing a distinct sound which he looks to continually evolve. Always looking to shy away from convention, the young producer’s talents are becoming as renowned for their innovation as they are for the effect they are having on the scene. Prominent cultural magazine factmag.com has even gone as far as describing Lil Silva’s sound as ‘grime in disguise.’”

Hello. I have done a few mixes for this website before but they always take me ages to put together and I am lazy so I am now going to try and share one MP3 a week and talk a little about it. Even I should be able to manage that. There will be more mixes, don’t worry. Think of this as a stop-gap measure. So, here is the theory: I set my iTunes to shuffle, I then skip through seven tracks (because everybody knows that seven is the best number out there) and then I upload the track that pops up regardless of what it might be and write a few sentences about it. Simple enough right? The first track that was selected for me is called “Onement” and it is the opening song from Growing’s 2004 LP The Soul Of The Rainbow And The Harmony Of The Light. It hails from the period in the bands evolution when it was comprised solely of the duo of Joe Denardo and Kevin Doria (they were a trio originally and last time I checked are a trio again. The pair of them were fixated on long, shimmering passages of guitar drone that went on and on like a never ending tide of crackle, fuzz, reverb and feedback. They did great stuff prior to this LP and have done great stuff since but iTunes managed to choose my favourite point of their sonic journey. Thank you machine!

SCOOBY RIDDIM
The Vagina and the Breastesses are great, I spend loads of my time thinking and talking about them and when i’m not talking and thinking about them i’m trying my level best to increase my exposure to both. It’s really fantastic when I get to see them for real and two of Dancehall’s biggest stars share my views and have gone as far as choosing careers that will boost their own contact with both.
Beenie man has gone for the path of a gynaecologist with Vybz Kartel opting to be a breast examiner. I admire their joint addition to medicinal care but I can’t believe that their collaboration ‘Specialist’ is anything more than the both of them putting a brave face on what must be horrendous and traumatic jobs. As a pum pum doctor Beenie man is subject to horrific sights on a daily basis and is no longer welcomed with a happy ending at the parting of a lady’s legs. One can only begin to imagine the trauma Kartel goes through when telling a woman that one, maybe even both of her little bundles of joy will have to be chopped off in a mastectomy because of the big, horrible, evil C. No sir, not for me.

Rye Fawkes by Lewis Wright from Fervent Moon on Vimeo.
Reely and Truly contributor Lewis Wright presents his latest film, Rye Fawkes.
“In the town of Rye, an old smuggling village on the south coast of England, Rye Fawkes is a meeting of dressed and masked members of the local bonfire club commemorating the attempt of Guy Fawkes to blow up Parliament. In the early 19th century it was a night of terror, roaming hoards carrying burning torches descended upon the streets in an anarchic rampage.”
