NAME ME SOMEONE THAT IS NOT A PARASITE 3

OK, fingers crossed you’ll know the drill by now. I’ll just bore myself to sleep explaining the premise again anyway so if you want to find out what this is all about then scroll down to previous entries on this site under the same title. This week’s shuffle came up with a track I momentarily considered not posting but that wouldn’t have been in keeping with either the spirit of the column or my own attitude towards music in general so here it is. It is a track by Whitehouse from their 1998 LP Mummy & Daddy. The track is called “Philosophy Of The Wife Beater”. Such topics are routine for Whitehouse who also have tracks entitled “I’m Coming Up Your Ass”, “A Cunt Like You” and “Rapeday” and dedicated a whole album to German child killer and sexual molester Peter Kurten. It would be all too easy to dismiss Whitehouse’s subject matter as mere sensationalisation and an attempt to court controversy for the sake of courting controversy. That is a fairly facile reading of a hugely complex group whose records I consider to be one of the most genuinely innovative and important bodies of work to emerge from this small island in the last three decades. William Bennet, Phillip Best (and occasionally Peter Sotos)’s aggressive, pioneering and genre defining power electronics remains as vital today as when it emerged in the early 1980’s. If this track piques your interest then great, please do explore this unique act for yourself and draw your own conclusions. If you are offended then you are probably in the wrong place.

BUG RIDDIM

Whats your best feature? Mine are my eyes, they’re a greeny brown, nothing amazing but my caramel skin and long eyelashes really accentuate the colour and the mix gives me a little edge. So much so I’m forever getting compliments on them especially from facesty rudegirls who say wonderful things such as ‘You’ve got nice eyes y’know’. I never know what to say to these comments and worse still I’m completely unable to turn the moment into horizontal disco time with these normally petulant ladies and my god would I want to. Like many I would love to mash a female hoodie, like really turn her out but if i’m honest I don’t know if I’ve got the equipment and If I land her I doubt I could keep her. This is my pain, my burden in fact. It is what links me stronger than any bond to Bounty Killer, our tragic beauty is clear to anyone who looks into our eyes.

NAME ME SOMEONE THAT IS NOT A PARASITE 2

Hello and welcome to part two of me flicking through my iTunes on shuffle seven times and then writing a little something about what ends up playing when I get to track number seven. This time around you get “Break The Mold” by Jerry’s Kids. “Break The Mold” is the penultimate track on the first side of the band’s Is This My World? LP which came out on X-Claim in 1983. What with it being an angry punk song about non conformity you would have thought that logically the song should be titled “Break The Mould”. “Break The Mold” sounds more like a tagline for Cillit Bang or something. In fact until I got a physical copy of the LP I just figured it was a mis-titled MP3, turns out not. Whether they could spell or not Is This My World? remains quite possibly my favourite release by any Boston band during that whole early 80’s period. And they had some stiff competition: D.Y.S., The F.U.’s, SSD and the mighty Negative FX were all playing Kenmore Square’s clubs and dives at roughly the same time as Jerry’s Kids. For the record though: Siege and Deep Wound were not from Boston. They were from Weymouth and Westfield Massachusetts respectively. If they were really from Boston I would have to re-think my position on the whole ‘favourite early 80’s Boston release’ thing. They’re not though so enjoy “Break The Mold” and we’ll probably get to them all in good time.
