SHOWBIZ & AG - RUNAWAY SLAVE
How good a look are full tracksuits? I have been craving a really nice turquoise and black nylon one for ages. Look at these guys, just hanging out, bro time on the stoop, shooting the shit etc. Have you ever seen a rap album with a cover that looked more like a nice way to spend sunday? No girls in bikinis ruining your sports talk, no guns, no nasty drugs or booze - just chillllll. ILL.
PS - I just listened to JANE by EPMD for the first time in about two years. That song is seriously odd:
They make friends with this guy Jay - or J i suppose.
They think he is really cool.
They go to his house for a sleep over or whatever.
They see tampons and girls pants.
They quiz Jay/J.
A fight ensues.
During the fight Jay/J’s tits fall out and they discover he is a GIRL!
Jay/J is in fact Jane.
So they rape her.
Bit off huh?

In the early ‘80s renowned photographer Mark Lebon launched ‘Reely’, a long-running and influential London film night and club. This year GETME! and DoBeDo resurrect the night as ‘Reely and Truly’.
Each month ‘Reely and Truly’ will open with an hour of short films curated by DoBeDo – featuring the work of both young filmmakers and some of the original ‘Reely’ contributors.
Alongside this, two photographers are invited each month to shoot and premier an exclusive slide show that will play as the visual accompaniment to GETME! DJs and monthly special guests.

This is one of the stacks of amazing compilations that Honest Jon’s churn out. And I had it for a while before I actually started really looking at the photographs in the liner notes. I was looking of old photographs of London for work, and I noted down one of the photographer’s names, Val Wilmer.
The next day I went on the internet and had a google about, and found that she had no contacts or website listed. I kind of forgot about it and carried on with other stuff, until about a month later when my friend Alex Sturrock was looking through my note book and got all : “Oi, why you got Val’s name in your book?” and it turned out he used to live next door to her and his mum was friends with her. So he got me her phone number and that led to this which led to me getting to know Val pretty well, which led to her making me this print of Son House:
So the record led to me meeting an amazing woman and doing some of the most enjoyable ‘work’ I have ever done. And on top of that all the music on it is brilliant. Especially “Calypso Blues” by Mona Baptiste.
