BRICKHOUSE

image

Brickhouse is a short-living gallery making fast programs of exhibitions, usually with young artists.
We do not have our own space but are invited to use other peoples, currently the gallery is in the New Gallery London in Peckham, we are installing a solo show a week and are embarking on our 5th of this program with Henry Stringer. Stiringer works with ambitious fabrications and has recently shown with Hannah Barry at the NewArtCentre Sculpture Park in Wiltshire. For his show at Brickhouse, opening this Thursday, Stringer is installing a functioning jacuzzi, fabricated by him, into the gallery, as well as a giant, glowing, welded steel Makita logo (his favorite power tool brand). Visitors to the show will be welcome to use the jacuzzi.

Henry Stringer Opening: Dec 2nd

Michael O’Mahoney Opening: Dec 9th

Ocean Mims: Dec 16th

NICK JENSEN : SECTION SELECTION

Here is the latest girl and chocolate tour web video.

Der Bratwurst Tour Ever from Crailtap on Vimeo.

Recently Paul Rodriguez has put out a section only available to download from itunes, I feel like I would be doing my monthly skateboard update a disservice without encouraging you to watch it whether you download it free using your wizzedry or if you just pay 3 quid to see it? It’s what i would describe as a demonstration of the most unbelievable thing ever. Obviously there are aspects to his perfection which actually produce boredom. But, for the amount of money this guy makes i am stoked he is really living up to his super man status.
Although it is hard to relate to and personally i would much rather skate and see the skating of Vincent Alverez, who is in the girl and chocolate tour. He skates so fast and with so much enthusiasm, there is no one like him. He lives up to his nick name ‘Vinsanity’.

LP COVER COMMENTARY WITH KING BB

OST - FRITZ THE CAT

The 1972 film version of Robert Crumb’s Fritz the Cat comic has a fucking amazing soundtrack. It pretty much about a cat con-man who goes around shagging lots of lady cats, who confusingly have human boobs. Which by the way is an annoying head-fuck up there with Maid Marion in Disney’s Robin Hood. A fair bit of the sound track was written expressly for the film, but there a a handful of great funk and rock songs on there too. In case you want a taste of the over all vibe here is a snippet and here are a few of my favourite tracks.

Bo Didley - Bo Didley
Billie Holiday - Yesterdays
Ray Shanklin - Duke’s Theme

Fritz also makes great T-Shirts you can buy for way too much money in stupid shops in Japan.

(don’t try and tell me that cat’s boobs don’t look great)

NOTES FROM JAMAICA - MESHACH DANIEL FALCONER ROBERTS

image

I’m three weeks into my stay in this godforsaken country, I haven’t seen a gun yet but I’m hopefully going to the mountains on Monday to harvest some purple skunk. The dancehall chart show still evades me and the radio seems allergic to giving track names so I’ve got no good music information for you. I song which I like and my cousin claims is called “Swagger” by Bounty Killer, now known as Grand God, is probably the biggest song here at the moment. Most of the dancehall stars have changed their names, Buji Banton - Gargamel, Sizzla - Kalonji, Movado - Gully God, Black Ryno - Stinger, Lisa Hype - Lisa Hyper, Capleton - Prophet. Lots of people have been leaving Gaza for Gully, Spice and Black Ryno who apparently left because Kartel beat Lisa Hype up and forced her to give him a blowjob (obviously I don’t beleive this, i think my cousin is trying to spread rumours). The area I’m in is a gully one and this puts mean of this risk into turning into a true Gaza man. Don’t worry I’m still flying the flag, never scared. The two soundsystems I have been going to in the local area have been shut down due to shoot outs, one involving police and one involving gangsters.

LP COVER COMMENTARY WITH KING BB

image

Amazing debut album, confusingly called an EP, from those guys that did ‘Watch Out Now’. Reign of the Tec, one of the singles of this record is about as boom bappy as you could want, and the video has all the good stuff - like helicopters, car crashes, guns, and I am pretty sure Psycho Les is wearing a ski hat backwards - which is really stepping things up in the hat world. Second single off this was No Equal - the video is decidedly more chilled. Also making use of the wobbly video look favoured by Cypress Hill on Tequila Sunrise. Like being drunk, see. Final awesome thing about this record is the flagrant off-ripping of Blue Note graphic design, originally the work of good old Hank Mobley. Well done boys. Shit gets out of hand they got a tec in the trunk, apparently.
